Open Call: Biography – Before, Now, or After
Omi Art Gallery invites artists to apply for our new curated online exhibition, Biography – Before, Now, or After, featuring a selection of works chosen by guest curator Anzhela Popova, a London-based gallerist and curator from ADH Studio, Notting Hill.
About the Open Call
In the contemporary world, biography is more than just a personal history—it is a cultural product that actively shapes how individuals are perceived. In an age of digitalisation and globalisation, biographical narratives gain new significance as they become accessible through social media, blogs, and other digital formats. Personal stories serve as metaphors for broader societal processes, revealing deeper mechanisms of interaction between self and society.
Unlike traditional biographies, which often follow a linear structure, contemporary biographies highlight moments of transformation, key events, and new realizations. Artists, through their creative practice, reconstruct and reinterpret their inner worlds in response to these ever-changing realities.
A biography is not static—it is a dynamic process, evolving as individuals reflect, revise, and redefine their narratives. Art becomes both an expression and an exploration of these changes, offering insights into personal experiences while reflecting wider social and cultural shifts.
